Oh, hello. My name is Mariko Tamaki, I'm a writer and performer. I am the author of Cover Me, True Lies, Fake ID, co-creator of Emiko Superstar (Steve Rolston) and Skim (Jillian Tamaki). Upcoming: (You) Set Me on Fire, published by Penguin Canada. I'm also a public speaker and teacher, (mostly creative writing, mostly high schools). On the side, I'm an amateur spy. Spying on me and spying on you. What else? Lots of things. I'd like to think that if you were forced to take a picture of me for every minute of the day that a) not all of those pictures would be the same and b) at least some of those pictures would be INTERESTING pictures.

PURSE

Watch the vlog

Yes.

It's my purse.

It's my life.

And yes i'm aware that the fish on our wall kind of looks like it's eating my head in the first part AND clearly it's not 9:45 am but, shall we say, maybe a little after 10.

I used to worry about not having anything to do when stuck in a car/bus/train/whatever but I stopped caring. Once I got to a certain point in my life I stopped caring about almost everything I could be doing somewhere else if I were there. I find that not having stuff to do is freeing. It allows me to sit and meditate, take a nap or else make up little songs about the people around me and contemplate how I always feel about two seconds from snapping and going hellfire on someone.

It's like standing at the edge of a cliff.

I take a ton of stuff everywhere too and never get it done. I like that problem as opposed to the alternative :)
